Relief Worker Joins Illinois Flood Effort

Share

A volunteer nurse from the American Red Cross of Ventura County has been dispatched to Illinois to help in flood-relief programs, senior Red Cross officials said.

Elisabeth Anderson, of Ventura, who could not be reached for comment, is no stranger to disaster relief.

During her years of volunteering with the American Red Cross, she has helped victims of the Midwest floods in 1993, the 1994 Northridge earthquake, the Ventura County floods last year and the La Conchita landslide.

“We are very pleased to have so many trained and experienced relief workers in Ventura County,” said Richard Rink, director of disaster services for the American Red Cross of Ventura County.

“Keeping disaster personnel active [by] providing mutual aid to other areas of the country is a very good way to bring back valuable experience to our county.”

More than 10,000 homes have been damaged in 13 Illinois counties.

Volunteers are encouraged to contact the American Red Cross of Ventura County for disaster relief training. Interested people should call 339-2234 or 582-8630 for more information.
