John Fenton Murray; Comedy Writer for Radio, TV

John Fenton Murray, 79, comic writer who worked for Red Skelton and on scripts for “Gilligan’s Island.” Murray joined Skelton after service in World War II, first writing radio gags and later laugh lines for Skelton’s television show. After 12 years with the red-haired comedian, Murray left to write for “The Jimmy Durante Show.” Later he was a key writer on “McHale’s Navy,” “Gilligan’s Island,” “Good Times” and “Chico and the Man.” He also wrote for the movies, including scripts for Jerry Lewis, “Robin and the Seven Hoods,” which starred Frank Sinatra, and “Man’s Favorite Sport” with Rock Hudson and Doris Day.
