City Planners Oppose Gas Station Expansion Plans
City planners have recommended against a plan to add an express carwash and beer and liquor outlet at a Union Oil station.
The expansion would generate more traffic in what is already a crowded intersection at Crown Valley Parkway and Puerto Real, Planning Director Clint Sherrod said.
“This is the most active area in the city,” he said this week. “This plan is too congested, and we’re recommending denial.”
The application submitted by Union Oil calls for an express carwash that would employ two workers to hand-dry vehicles. The plan also includes an 1,100-square-foot addition to the station for beer and wine sales.
Sherrod said congestion at the intersection is expected to increase anyway when a 200,000-square-foot entertainment mall is built a few hundred feet from the gas station. That proposal has already been approved.
Union Oil officials could not be reached for comment.
