Orange County Dist. Atty. Michael R. Capizzi has been elected president of the California District Attorneys Assn., an organization that promotes legislative advocacy and legal education.
Capizzi, 56, was chosen for the unpaid position by the association’s members. He was installed at a meeting of the board of directors last month. The board is made up of 15 prosecutors.
Capizzi’s role will be vital in setting policy direction on legislation and other matters, said Lawrence G. Brown, the group’s executive director.
The association is made up of more than 2,300 deputy district attorneys, all 58 elected district attorneys in the state and the attorney general.
“Mr. Capizzi is a veteran prosecutor who is highly regarded by his peers across the state,” Brown said.
Capizzi has been Orange County’s district attorney since 1990. He holds a degree from the University of Michigan School of Law.
