2 Cuban Refugees Die, 27 Are Rescued

Cuban refugees clinging to an overturned boat were rescued off the Florida Keys, but help came too late for a woman and infant found floating nearby. Meanwhile, a Cuban American group demanded that President Clinton let the 27 survivors remain in the United States. The refugees were picked up about 60 miles south of Miami by the Coast Guard, which was alerted by pleasure boaters. Under a Clinton reversal of U.S. policy dating to the 1960s, Cuban refugees now face deportation.
