Crime Bill: A bill to chemically “castrate” repeat child molesters survived the Senate Appropriations Committee and could be voted on by the full state Senate next week. AB 3339, by Bill Hoge, who represents parts of the Valley area, would require twice-convicted child molesters to take the drug Depo-Provera before being released from prison. If it becomes law, California would become the first state to mandate chemical “castration.” “We are saying ‘child abusers, you will not touch our babies anymore,’ ” said Susan Carpenter-McMillan, president of the Pasadena-based Women’s Coalition.
