School’s Assistant Principal Promoted

Trustees of the Santa Paula Union High School District have selected an assistant principal to lead Santa Paula High School.
School board members voted earlier this week to offer the job to Tony Gaitan, who has worked as the school’s assistant principal for the past three years.
“He’s a known entity,” school board Vice President Terry Nelson said. “He’s been at the high school for quite awhile. He has the experience and he’s been able to be a quiet leader on campus as an assistant principal.”
Gaitan stood out in a field of 18 applicants, including three finalists. Nelson said the new principal was an easy choice.
“He was heads above the other candidates,” Nelson said. “He’s a real good person and you won’t find a harder worker.”
The 1996-97 school year starts in three weeks.
