Tree-Care Project Seeks Volunteers
State park officials are inviting the public to participate in a tree-care project today at Rancho Sierra Vista, a site in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.
Volunteers are needed to help clear weeds from an area where more than 1,000 trees were planted a year ago to replace those destroyed by a 1993 wildfire that swept across the county, said Jean Bray, a parks spokeswoman.
Workers will also water the soil around the trees--which include live and valley oaks--and check up on their survival rate, Bray said.
To get to Rancho Sierra Vista, take the Ventura Freeway to the Wendy exit in Newbury Park, turn south on Wendy Drive and proceed to Potrero Road. At Potrero Road, turn west and continue to Reino Road. Rancho Sierra Vista is south of the intersection.
Volunteers are asked to meet at the site at 9 a.m. They are advised to bring a hat, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen and gloves.
