Congratulations to The Times sports department for setting a college football record--and the season hasn’t even begun.
The record? Earliest mention of the USC-Notre Dame game, a.k.a. “Will the Surgeons ever beat Notre Dame again this century?”
The new record: Aug. 10, 1996, 16 weeks (112 days) before the game and 15 days before the season opener.
