Hollandsworth Sits Despite Average

With left-hander Jeff Fassero starting for the Montreal Expos on Saturday, Dodger Manager Bill Russell replaced the left-handed hitting Todd Hollandsworth in left field with right-handed hitting Billy Ashley. Taking Hollandsworth’s place as the leadoff hitter was Chad Curtis.

Hollandsworth, however, hasn’t had a problem with left-handers the few times he has faced them. He was hitting .291 before Saturday night’s game, and against left-handers he was four-for-13 with a .308 average.

Saturday night’s game was preceded by the Hollywood Stars game, an annual tradition at Dodger Stadium for more than 30 years. Among those participating were Billy Crystal, Dean Cain, Tony Danza, Mark Harmon, Jon Lovitz and Jonathan Silverman.

When Cain came to the plate with an aluminum bat, Danza, the opposing pitcher, protested, forcing Cain to switch to wood. Guess Danza figured it was tough enough to face TV’s Superman without giving him an additional advantage.

Crystal’s dream as a kid was to play shortstop for the New York Yankees.

Asked when he realized that dream was not going to become reality, the comedian replied, “March of this year.” . . Lovitz did double duty, singing the national before the Dodgers’ game.
