Police to Speak at Community Meeting

Capt. Richard Wemmer, commanding officer of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Van Nuys Division, will be the featured guest Wednesday) at a meeting of the Panorama City Neighborhood Assn.

“This is a golden opportunity to find out what’s going on in the Van Nuys Division and have direct input regarding police problems,” said Leslie Yamashita, a spokeswoman for the homeowners group. “Bring a neighbor and come with your positive contribution so we can be part of the solution.”

In the association’s August newsletter, Wemmer praised community activists for helping police reduce crime in the Van Nuys Division this year.

“As 1996 continues, I urge each of us to continue our efforts with energy and passion and hopefully the early trends of 1996 will continue to reflect decreases in crime, gang, narcotics, quality of life and traffic problems,” Wemmer wrote.

The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Room 208 of the Mission Community Medical Center, 14860 Roscoe Blvd. in Panorama City.
