Operation Chill: Beginning Thursday, Los Angeles police will be looking for kids in the West Valley, hoping to catch them doing something right. In conjunction with 7-Eleven stores, the West Valley Division will be the first in the LAPD to reward youngsters with convenience store drink certificates. Lt. Tony Alba said “Operation Chill”--named for the frozen drinks kids will receive--will highlight positive behavior. “They’ll be looking for things like good grades, good deeds, good citizenship,” he said.

AIDS Care: In an effort to maintain funding for the San Fernando Valley’s largest AIDS clinic, some 500 people are expected at today’s Board of Supervisors meeting. . . . The AIDS Healthcare Foundation’s Valley clinic in Sherman Oaks is slated to close Oct. 1.

Coming About: Their weekend regattas may not match the America’s Cup for size or stature, but that’s of no concern to the Lake Balboa Model Yacht Club. . . . Newhall’s Future: Santa Clarita today is holding the first in a series of meetings on the redevelopment of old Newhall. . . . The meeting, to focus on items ranging from day laborers to public improvements, will be held at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center at 7 p.m.
