Hot, Humid Weather Forecast for Weekend

Meteorologists are predicting East Coast-style weather for Orange County this weekend: hot, humid days with a chance of thunderstorms in canyon areas.

Today and Sunday will be much like Friday, said Curtis Brack, a meteorologist for WeatherData, which provides forecasts for The Times. Patchy to dense morning fog along the coast will yield to sunshine and temperatures approaching 90 degrees.

Overnight lows will drop to the low 60s or high 50s, he said.

A ridge of high pressure is pulling “monsoon moisture” into Southern California from a hurricane moving west from the Gulf of Mexico, Brack said.

“The major source of the warm, humid air is Hurricane Dolly passing through northeast Mexico,” he said. “Dolly is going to be dissipated . . . but the moisture will still be around and continue to stream into the southern part of California.”

Anaheim posted the county’s high temperature Friday: 91 degrees. Santa Ana reached 88 degrees; Lake Forest, 87; Dana Point, 78; and Newport Beach, 73.

A cooling trend is expected to begin Monday, Brack said.
