SMALL FACES: The Presidents of the United States of America will be releasing their second album, “II,” on (when else?) election day, Nov. 5. The Seattle trio is at home putting finishing touches on the collection now. . . .

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Kay Henley of Letter to Cleo marshaled fellow Boston rock acts for “Safe and Sound,” a benefit album inspired by the Boston abortion clinic murders of last year. Among the others contributing new or live tracks for the album, due Oct. 22, are Tracy Bonham, Aimee Mann, Morphine, Mary Lou Lord, Belly and Juliana Hatfield. . . .

Beck has just done an interview with Tom Petty--who recorded a version of the younger artist’s “Asshole” on his new album of music from the movie “She’s the One”--for the December cover story of Musician magazine. Meanwhile, Beck’s recent “Odelay” album will be released on high-quality vinyl next month, with a poster of a collage done in part by his artist grandfather Al Hansen.
