A tattooed man is being sought by police in a home invasion robbery that left a husband and wife hospitalized Tuesday with serious injuries.

Police said the couple were severely beaten after they were confronted by the intruder who broke into their home in the 9700 block of Burnet Avenue shortly before dawn Monday. It is not known if any items were taken from the home, said Los Angeles Police Det. Gary Barthelmes.

The names of the couple are being withheld for their protection, Barthelmes said. The 47-year-old husband was listed in critical condition with severe head injuries Tuesday at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills. His wife was being treated for serious injuries at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Woodland Hills.

Barthelmes said the break-in was unusual in the quiet neighborhood of single-family homes.

The suspect is described as Latino, 5 feet 4 to 5 feet 7 in height, of medium build, 25 to 30 years old with a thin mustache and numerous body tattoos.
