Tour to Show Reagans’ Offices

The private offices of Ronald and Nancy Reagan will be open for public viewing this weekend at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum near Simi Valley.

The second-floor offices of the former president and first lady are decorated with gifts from foreign leaders and royalty. Other items have a more domestic theme, said Mark Hunt, library and museum director. “There is a photograph in Mrs. Reagan’s office of the six living first ladies who were present for the dedication of the building in November 1991,” Hunt said.

The first ladies pictured are Nancy Reagan, Patricia Nixon, Betty Ford, Rosalyn Carter, Barbara Bush and Lady Bird Johnson.

“The reciprocal photo is of the five living presidents” who were at the library’s dedication in 1991, Hunt said. “That photo is in the president’s office.”

The presidents pictured are Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter and George Bush.

“That was a pretty rare and historic moment,” Hunt said.

This is only the second time the offices have been open to the public since the library was dedicated. Space on the tours is limited and guests should arrive at the museum early to get tickets.

A tour will be led upstairs each hour from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

On Sept. 7, the Reagan museum opens a new exhibit, “Back to the Sixties.”

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum is at 40 Presidential Drive, Simi Valley. Call 522-8444 for more information.
