JETHAWK REPORT : Ballpark Has Familiar Look

Share

The JetHawks got a funny feeling when they walked into the Ranch, San Bernardino’s new ballpark.

It felt kind of like . . . home.

The Ranch, which opened on Monday, was designed by the same firm that did the Hangar, and the parks are nearly identical.

The main difference is the picnic areas along the foul lines are elevated, so fans in those areas can see the game.

For the players, the main difference is that the clubhouses are under the stadium, down a tunnel from the dugouts. In Lancaster, the clubhouses are down the lines, not connected to the stadium.

“Being underneath is nice,” JetHawk Manager Dave Brundage said. “I don’t have all those people to rag on me after we lose.”

Because the JetHawks commute to all the Southern Division cities except Lake Elsinore, they have gotten used to two-hour busrides over Highway 138, a two-lane road that connects the Antelope Valley to Interstate 15.

Because of construction on the road, the rides are normally slow and tedious.

“It’s good because you get to see the whole movie,” Brundage said.
