Fair to Offer Job Seekers Insight Into Who’s Hiring

After suffering from a severe recession in the early 1990s, the California job market has been bouncing back. Over the last 12 months, the state has gained an estimated 309,700 jobs, good news for job seekers and those thinking about changing careers.

To offer a closer look at some of the companies doing the hiring, the Los Angeles Times will hold a free job fair from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Long Beach Convention Center.

National high-tech companies, retailers, aerospace firms and financial services companies are among the recruiters that will be at Career Days. Attendees will be able to receive free resume help and photocopying and participate in career counseling workshops provided at no charge by the Professionals in Human Resources Assn. For a $5 fee, they can have their resumes entered into a database for distribution to companies at the job fair.

The Times will distribute free copies of its Careers special section at the fair. The section, to be published Monday, offers practical advice on career and job topics and contains hundreds of help-wanted ads. The next issue of Careers will be published Nov. 4.

The Times’ job fair, the last one scheduled for this year, will be held in Hall A of the Long Beach Convention Center, 300 E. Ocean Blvd. Parking is $6. For more information, call The Times at (213) 237-2544.
