John Rabun, the Inglewood Adult School principal who has been charged with embezzling $27,000 to put a down payment on a $425,000 Ladera Heights home, will be arraigned in Los Angeles Superior Court on Sept. 11, the district attorney’s office said.
Rabun has pleaded not guilty to one count of grand theft and one count of embezzlement in a preliminary hearing in Los Angeles Municipal Court on Aug. 28.
A principal at the school for 10 years, Rabun is now on leave.
The alleged embezzlement involved a July 8, 1994, check reportedly made out to Rabun from the school’s account.
Prosecutors allege that the check was converted into a cashier’s check made out to Rabun and deposited in a family business account.
A week later, Rabun allegedly closed escrow on his 3,750-square-foot house on West 62nd Street.
Rabun’s arrest in May followed two other scandals in the Inglewood Unified School District.
Andrew Truesdale, a school custodian supervisor, was arrested in December on suspicion of putting phantom employees on the payroll and collecting $430,000.
In April, Langston Phillips, a clerk in the district’s administrative office, was convicted of embezzling public funds.
Phillips reportedly stole $20,000 worth of district checks and deposited more than $4,000 into his personal account.
