L.A. County Fair Tuning Up

The Goo Goo Dolls, DC Talk, Pat Boone, Martina McBride, Phyllis Diller, Eddie Money, Creedence Clearwater Revisited and Blood, Sweat and Tears are among the grandstand acts scheduled at the 69th Los Angeles County Fair, which opens Friday.

This is the first year since 1983 that the fair is offering nightly entertainment, which publicity director Sid Robinson says creates more of “an urgency for people to come on a certain day, at a certain time. And we have something to appeal to everyone out there, country to Latino to alternative music to the Nickelodeon show for families.” Grandstand entertainment also includes motor sports events, chuck-wagon races and the Bullrider’s Classic. All events are free with fair admission, but box seats are available for $10.

Other attractions include carnival rides and games; home arts and fine arts exhibits; 4-H competitions; a happy hour each night (5-7 p.m.) at the newly remodeled Fiesta Village (every Thursday is College Fiesta Night); horse racing (Sept. 12-30), the annual Fiesta del Castillo (Sept. 15), and fireworks over the fairgrounds each day at 10 p.m.
