A Simi Valley woman and her 21-month-old grandson were found dead in their backyard swimming pool Wednesday evening, the victims of an apparent drowning.

Officers arrived about 5:30 p.m. at the home in the 500 block of Dodd Street, on the city’s western end. They found neighbors in the deep end of pool attempting to rescue the toddler, Daniel Dolmaian, who was in the water still strapped in his stroller.

The grandmother, 58-year-old Anahit Dolmaian, was found lying on the concrete edge of the pool, with her head and shoulders submerged, apparently trying to reach for the infant with her right arm.

The bodies were originally found by the toddler’s mother, Larrsa and 4-year-old brother Johnny, who had returned from an outing.

Officers attempted to resuscitate the two, but were unsuccessful. Both were taken to Simi Valley Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Authorities said they were not sure how long both were in the water, or whether the grandmother could swim.

An investigation of the incident is continuing.
