Pen Pals

* I didn’t realize having a pen pal was so special till I read “Friends Meet After 25 Years of Letters” (Aug. 27).

My pen pal and I have been writing since 1944 when I was 15. It now has been 52 years. She is from Moss Vale, N.S.W., Australia. In all that time we have covered all of life’s events. In 1966 my husband and I took a trip to see her. He went to New Guinea while I and our children stayed with her for six weeks. The children, then 10 and 7, went to school there. They were treated like royalty. A few years ago her adult son was here for a visit. This October her adult daughter will also visit. It has been a friendship most treasured.
