RENDEZVOUS Reliving the Fur Trade Era of 1825-1840 by Kurt Rhody (Sierra Press: $17.95, 79 pp., paperback original). Rhody documents the annual Rendezvous (meeting) of the Buckskinners, an informal society dedicated to re-creating the era of the fur traders and mountain men. The members don’t really want to give up modern hygiene, medicine and technology for more than a few days, but Rhody’s warm photographs capture the sense of fun that pervades this elaborate game of dress-up.
