Tuffree Jury to Return Monday
The jury in the Daniel Allan Tuffree murder trial will stay in recess until Monday to allow a juror who suffered a mild stroke this week more time to recuperate, attorneys said Thursday.
Testimony was suspended this week after the juror was hospitalized. She suffered the stroke Monday while the jury was in recess.
The woman was expected to return to the court proceedings Thursday, but officials now say she will not be able to return until next week.
Although four jury alternates have heard testimony in the five-week trial, Superior Court Judge Allan L. Steele said he was reluctant to break up the present configuration of the jury by replacing the sick juror.
Tuffree is on trial for killing Simi Valley Police Officer Michael Clark on Aug. 4, 1995. Prosecutors rested their case last week. Defense attorneys plan to call their first witness Monday.
