Rancho Santiago Sees 32% Drop in Crime

Share

Reports of crime at Rancho Santiago College are on the decline, according to a report by the campus security department.

The report states that crime has dropped by 32% in the past three years. The sharp decline was credited to a 24-hour security patrol instituted at Rancho, its sister campus in Orange and all other sites where classes are offered by the Rancho Santiago Community College District.

In 1993, the district hired two security officers in its drive to step up safety measures for students and faculty.

Security officers said awareness campaigns and other prevention programs also played a role in contributing to the lower crime rate.

“We teach personal safety techniques to help prevent rape, auto theft and other crimes,” Officer Ken Gouldsmith said in the report.
