Norstrom Returns From World Cup

Defenseman Mattais Norstrom joined camp Wednesday after returning from his Swedish team competing in the World Cup.

“It feels good to be back. I don’t feel tired at all after the World Cup,” Norstrom said.

Team officials watching practice said Norstrom did a good job of checking Eric Lindros during Sweden’s game against Canada.

Six players at training camp will return to their European teams: Jere Karalahti (defenseman, Finland), Kimmo Timonen (defenseman, Finland), Jukka Tiilikainen (left wing, Finland), Mikael Simons (center, Sweden), Martin Strbak (defenseman, Slovakia) and Tomas Vlasek (right wing, Czech Republic).

The Kings have rights to the players but have not signed them. They were able to participate in camp because the World Cup delayed the start of the European season.

The Kings will play their Black vs. White intrasquad scrimmage at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Iceoplex. Tickets are $10 and $5, with all proceeds going to the Kings Care Foundation, which gives money to various charities, and the West Valley Wolves youth hockey team.

The team will have fitness testing instead of practice today.
