Decomposed Body Found at State Park

The decomposed body of a man believed to be in his early 20s was found in the Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area near Gorman, authorities said Saturday.

Authorities have not identified the body, which was found Friday, and the cause of death is unknown pending toxicology results, Ventura County Sheriff’s Capt. Larry Robertson said. However, Robertson said the body is not that of Michael Stevenson, 46, a homeless-shelter worker from Ventura who was last seen about two months ago.

The badly decomposed body was found by a park aide about 2 p.m. Friday in a day-use area of the park, which straddles the Ventura-Los Angeles county line, authorities said.

Ventura County sheriff’s detectives and an investigator from the Ventura County medical examiner’s office were sent to the scene.

An autopsy was conducted on the body Saturday morning, but authorities have not determined a cause of death.

Anyone with relevant information is asked to call Robertson at 654-2340.
