Founded in 1963, Friends of Taxco has helped build and equip more than 20 schools in Taxco, Guerraro, Mexico. Taxco is known for its silver resources.

Richard Tody, the organization’s president, said the group holds monthly fund-raisers and an annual raffle, and uses the proceeds to establish cultural exchange programs for youth and adults. But the organization primarily helps to better the lives of children in Taxco. Some of the money has been used to build and stock a new city library.

The association’s founders, Francis and Marion Lederer, were heeding the challenge by President Dwight Eisenhower to establish diplomacy at the grass-roots level, Tody said. Group members will be present to give visitors details on the history of the organization.

The mixer is free and open to Canoga Park residents. For more information, call Tody at (818) 348-7628.
