Gag Order Imposed in Court Fight Over Custody of Simpson Children

An Orange County judge Wednesday imposed a gag order in a battle between O.J. Simpson and his former in-laws for custody of his two children.

Lawyers for both sides declined to say what, if any, resolution had been reached in the case in which Simpson is trying to regain full custody of the children he had with his slain ex-wife.

Attorney Saul Gelbart, who is representing Nicole Brown’s parents, Louis and Juditha Brown, said no one in the courtroom objected to Commissioner Thomas H. Schulte’s order.

After a series of closed-door hearings at the family court in Orange, Gelbart said no further sessions were scheduled for the rest of this week or next. But he declined to say whether a settlement had been reached in the case.

“For now, the matter is concluded,” Gelbart said. The Browns have had temporary guardianship of Sydney, 10, and Justin, 8.

Simpson turned the children over to their grandparents after his arrest in June 1994. The children have had weekend visits with him since his acquittal, but Simpson contends he should have sole custody because he is the biological father.
