JERUSALEM —
Former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres says he will not run again for the nation’s top elected office in four years.
“I think the time has come for a change,” Peres told Israel TV on Wednesday, ending the speculation about his future that began with his May 29 defeat. “I won’t run in the year 2000 to be prime minister.”
Peres refused to back a candidate for new Labor Party leader.
