DALLAS — Greg Vanney scored in the 48th minute Thursday night as the Los Angeles Galaxy beat the Dallas Burn, 2-1, to clinch Major League Soccer’s Western Conference regular-season title.
Eduardo Hurtado opened the scoring for the Galaxy in the 11th minute in front of a Cotton Bowl crowd of 12,569. It was Hurtado’s 21st goal of the season, third best in MLS.
Hugo Sanchez tied it for Dallas (17-14) in the 23rd minute.
With one game remaining--Sunday against Dallas at the Rose Bowl--the Galaxy (18-13) cannot be caught.
The Galaxy will play either the San Jose Clash or Kansas City Wiz in the first game of the three-game Western Conference playoff series next week. The second and, if necessary, third games will be at the Rose Bowl.
