From Times Wire Reports

Russian President Boris N. Yeltsin has problems with other organs that may complicate upcoming heart surgery, his doctors revealed. The doctor likely to be the chief surgeon during Yeltsin’s operation told ABC News that the president had suffered a heart attack this summer while campaigning for reelection. Dr. Rinat Akchurin did not remember the exact date but said it was at the end of June or beginning of July--between the two rounds of presidential voting. Dr. Sergei Mironov, the Kremlin’s chief physician, seemed to confirm that Yeltsin’s health is worse than previously acknowledged and that surgeons are concerned about how to keep other problems at bay during a planned heart bypass.
