1-Year-Old Boy in Critical Condition After Near Drowning
An infant boy was listed in critical condition Saturday night at Northridge Hospital Medical Center after nearly drowning in his parents’ spa earlier in the day, authorities said.
The 1-year-old boy was transferred from Simi Valley Hospital about 7:30 p.m. after undergoing about three hours of treatment, said Simi Valley Hospital spokeswoman Carolina Aspe.
The child’s parents, whom police did not identify, found him face down in an uncovered backyard spa in the 2200 block of Stoneman Street about 4 p.m. Saturday, authorities said. He had been out of his parents’ sight for about five minutes before he was found in the spa and was pulled from the water by a Simi Valley police officer, authorities said.
Paramedics arrived and started treating the child, who was unresponsive and not breathing, said Rob Snyder, a paramedic supervisor with MedTrans Ambulance. By the time paramedics arrived with the child at Simi Valley Hospital emergency room, his heart was beating and he was breathing on his own, Snyder said.
The child was taken to Simi Valley Hospital in critical condition.
Police are investigating the incident as an accident and do not expect any criminal charges to be filed.
