Cabeza de Vaca (KCET Sunday at 11 p.m.) Nicolas Echeverria’s stunning anti-imperialist telling of an ill-fated 16th-century Spanish voyage of exploration to Mexico and part of the United States. Juan Diego stars in this 1990 Mexican film.

The Dresser (A&E; early Tuesday at 2 a.m.) Peter Yates’ film of Ronald Harwood’s backstage play of the lacerating, bitchy, symbiotic relationship between a raging, dying old Shakespearean ham (a character based on Donald Wolfit) and his devoted, prissy dresser is especially moving because Albert Finney shows us that the old actor had greatness in him that he wasted and because Tom Countenay, in the title role, reveals the depth of love the dresser felt for his often outrageous employer--no matter what.

Dr. Giggles (Cinemax Wednesday at 8 p.m.) Lively horror comedy starring “L.A. Law’s” Larry Drake as an exceptionally witty mad doctor. Gory, but in the amusing Grand Guignol tradition. Notable feature debut for director Manny Coto.
