Attack Features McNown’s Arm

One of the things UCLA sought when it brought in offensive coordinator Al Borges was to put in the ball-control, short-passing game, and one of the thing Borges sought was to keep the Bruins from having to depend on the running of quarterback Cade McNown.

“You run for yards, but you pass for miles,” Borges said.

In two games, McNown, who completed only 49.8% of his passes a season ago, is 29 for 44 for 394 yards, a 65.9% completion rate.

Borges had sought a 60-65% rate for McNown, who has rushed for minus-13 yards in only 13 carries.
