2,000 Warner Workers to Walk for Charity
More than 2,000 employees in the Warner Center business district are expected to walk during their lunch hour Wednesday to raise funds for the March of Dimes.
The organizers of the 14th annual Warner Walk, as the event is called, hope to raise approximately $106,000 for the charity’s programs, all geared toward fighting birth defects and infant deaths.
“This is a great business community,” said Laura Strubing, a March of Dimes spokeswoman. “They are very, very supportive of this.”
Strubing said an estimated 100 companies already have sponsored teams this year, and other individuals and residents have signed up to walk the 1.5-mile course along Variel Avenue, Oxnard Street, Canoga Avenue and Erwin Street.
The official starting time for the walk is 11:45 a.m., but participants may stagger their route to begin later, and at one of three different starting points. The points are: Blue Cross of California, 21555 Oxnard St.; The Trillium, 6320 Canoga Ave.; and Howard’s Deli, 20970 Warner Center Lane.
All the walkers are expected to converge in Warner Park at the end of the walk for lunch, provided by local businesses.
“It’s not so much the walk, it’s the fun of raising money,” Strubing said. “The walk is the togetherness portion to get to the park.”
