Community Center to Have Rural Theme
After 1 1/2 years of public forums and hearings on the $1.8-million community center, the City Council has approved the conceptual design.
In keeping with the building’s rural theme, the council approved plans to design a wood-sided center with an open porch, a galvanized metal roof, a courtyard, a natural stone water fountain and a line of trees that are reminiscent of the groves that once existed on the property. The gymnasium will be stucco and designed to look like a barn.
Construction is expected to begin by April and be completed by December 1997. The 9,180-square-foot building will be next to the new sports park and will include an 1,800-square-foot community hall as well as a game room and lounge for seniors.
