A 20-year-old man was stabbed by a group of teenagers Tuesday as he took an evening walk with his live-in partner in the Ventura Avenue area, authorities said.

Angel Medina Duran was taken to Ventura County Medical Center with two stab wounds to the chest, but his injuries are not believed to be serious, said Ventura Police Det. George Morris.

Four 14- to 15-year-old boys attacked Duran near Simpson Street and Ventura Avenue, Morris said.

“They walked up to him and asked him where he was from and immediately attacked him and started beating on him,” Morris said.

While his female companion ran to call police, Duran fled across the street, but was cornered in a parking lot. He was stabbed and the boys fled down a nearby alley.

“He was just walking along with his wife or girlfriend,” said witness Arlette Davidian. “They just jumped him.”

Duran told police he is not a gang member and his attackers flashed no gang signs before assaulting him.

Such a random attack is unusual, Morris said.

“We’re not having people jumped and stabbed on a regular basis,” he said.
