Dr. Jack Kevorkian

Share

* Reading Column Right by Jeff Hooten on Sept. 17, I could not help but wonder if the charges he makes about Dr. Jack Kevorkian are in any way based on fact. Noting that Hooten is an associate editor of Focus on the Family’s Citizen magazine, I tend to consider the source of these allegations, and be very skeptical.

Dr. Kevorkian is a heroic figure to many who have seen loved ones suffer the cruelty and agony inflicted by a medical system that pats itself on the back for wringing the last drop of suffering from the elderly and terminally ill. The creed of “do no harm” has been terribly perverted when a doctor seeks to keep a dying patient alive against his or her own wishes, only to suffer needless torment.

I question Hooten’s remarkably vicious allegations, and hope there will be other courageous figures to come forward to challenge our present laws until they are changed to allow doctors to legally show compassion to the dying.
