Revocation of Anti-Hysterectomy Crusader’s License to Practice Medicine Is Upheld

The medical license of Dr. Vicki G. Hufnagel, a controversial Beverly Hills gynecologist best known as an anti-hysterectomy crusader, has been revoked after a Superior Court decision upheld the original revocation issued in 1989.

The latest action, taken on Sept. 3, comes after a lengthy series of appeals. The Medical Board of California acted on what it said were grounds of gross negligence, incompetence, dishonesty in billing practices, excessive use of diagnostic procedures and making false documents, said Candis Cohen, spokeswoman for the board.

Hufnagel has been allowed to continue practicing medicine as the appeals were heard, over the objections of the Medical Board, said attorney Gloria Barrios of the state Department of Justice, who is representing the board in the case.
