County OK Advances Pump Station Project
A $600,000 project to increase the capacity of the Seal Beach Pump Station moved forward when the County Board of Supervisors approved the development of retrofitting plans for the facility.
The station’s purpose is to protect Seal Beach from flooding by pumping runoff water into Anaheim Bay.
During unusually heavy rains in 1995, however, the 25-year-old station was unable to handle a large amount of runoff, and widespread flooding resulted.
A county study of the station after the 1995 flood determined that three pumps required rebuilding, and a structural retrofitting of the pump station would be needed for the new pumps, officials said.
Under current timetables, the entire pump station project would be completed in about a year.
The project is to include installation of new pumps and new pump engines, which are expected to increase the station’s capacity by about 25%.
