Murry Williams; Vietnam Veteran, Local Gas Plant Operator
Local gas plant operator Murry Williams died Sunday after suffering a heart attack while shopping with his family in Oxnard.
He was 52.
Born in Hot Springs, Ark., Williams joined the Navy in 1963 and was sent to Vietnam, where he loaded bombs onto planes and worked as an aircraft technician. He met future wife Diane while he was on leave in Ventura in 1964. She was only 15 1/2, but he came back to marry her in 1967. They spent the next 29 years together, according to son Clinton.
Williams worked the oil wells on Ventura Avenue for more than 20 years, with Getty, Texaco and Cal Resources.
As superintendent for Getty and Texaco, he traveled across the state and to Texas.
Williams spent his spare time with his family, raced stock cars and remodeled his house.
“He loved his friends, his job and the oil fields,” said Clinton Williams.
He is survived by his wife, who lives in Oak View; sons Clinton of Oak View and David of Santa Barbara; five grandchildren, Alessa, Michael, Callie, David and Montgomery; brothers Roy, Lee and Johnny of Arkansas, Hiram of Texas and sister Corena of Arkansas.
Arrangements are being made by Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary in Santa Paula.
