Peter Broudy wants a rematch with the Reseda Country Club.

Broudy, a longtime Southern California boxing promoter whose career includes two stints presenting bouts at Reseda, is negotiating with the Country Club’s new manager to bring boxing back to the Valley venue, which has undergone extensive remodeling.

Broudy, promoter with Celebrity Boxing in Los Angeles, said he expects to reach an agreement soon with Mehdi Zamani, manager of the Country Club the past seven months, on a monthly program beginning in February, or, perhaps, as soon as November.

“I’m going to do the shows there. It’s going to happen,” Broudy said. “It’s [a matter of] coming up with the dates and the how-tos.”

Broudy, who promoted fights at Reseda from 1983 to 1986 and again in the early 1990s, is under contract with a local television network to promote bouts at the Olympic Auditorium through January.

Broudy, who promoted shows at the Warner Center Marriott in 1995, said he will seek to move his current program to Reseda, or, perhaps, promote shows at both venues until the contract expires.

Regardless, Broudy said, he is optimistic about returning to Reseda, where he promoted the last fight at the Country Club in July of 1993.

Zamani, who said the Country Club has received a complete “face lift,” recently sought out Broudy because of incessant inquiries by patrons about a return of boxing.

“Everything, cosmetically speaking, has been done,” Zamani said. “Bathrooms, kitchens, drywall, painting, carpeting, remodeling. . . . We fixed the sign outside. A lot of people have asked me, ‘Why don’t you bring boxing back?’ ”

Broudy was skeptical until he paid a visit to the Country Club.

“He called me last week and I didn’t even return his call,” Broudy said. “Had I not had an appointment out in the Valley [Tuesday] I probably wouldn’t have gone. But this guy is fixing up everything. He’s really cleaned it up.”
