Kemp and Wife to Host Fillmore Rally

For a glimpse of one of Fillmore High School’s most famous graduates--and her husband, Republican vice presidential nominee Jack Kemp--the public can show up today at Fillmore’s Central Park.

Combining a California campaign swing with a birthday celebration, Joanne Main Kemp and her politician husband will host a GOP rally about noon before heading to her mother’s house for Joanne’s birthday luncheon.

Members of the public should arrive before noon to see the Kemps ride into town by train to the railroad station at Central and Santa Clara avenues.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Bruce Norris said Fillmore deputies do not plan to shut down any roads in advance of the rally, but they have been busy securing the downtown park for the event.

“You try to plan for a lot of contingencies, a lot of things that may happen,” Norris said. “You just try to get enough people to provide security for something like this.”

He said about 50 law enforcement officers from around the county would be in Fillmore today, as well as Secret Service agents traveling with the candidate.
