Meet the Press

Perhaps this might have been useful this week. . . . On Tuesday, six days after the media descended on Cal State Northridge for the debate between former Klansman David Duke and civil rights activist Joe Hicks, CSUN’s journalism department will hold a workshop for faculty with journalists as guest speakers. The title? “Beyond Banners and Billboards: A Workshop on How to Get Your Story in the Media.”

Promoting Harmony

Hicks, meanwhile, was busy again Friday, along with CSUN Student Body President Vladimir Cerna. . . . The pair, who were in the debate hall while a near riot broke out on campus, spoke at a seminar at the Los Angeles Convention Center sponsored by the California Assn. of Human Relations Organizations and the city Human Relations Commission. . . . The title of this gathering? “Summit on Human Relations: Building Community in the 21st Century.”

Building Bridges

Dozens of Angelenos got together Friday for the third “Days of Dialogue” event, a program designed to help people share their feelings about the issues and conflicts that often divide communities. . . . Carol McClure, above, was among the speakers at the meeting held at Pacoima Senior Center (B1).

CSUN Postscript

It just shows that if you wait long enough, some words will come back in vogue. . . . When riot police moved in on boisterous protesters at CSUN this week, a young woman, her voice filled with contempt, was overheard to say: “It’s the fuzz.” Groovy.
