Letter Won’t End ZIP Code Problem

* As reported by The Times on Sept. 25, I received a letter from the U. S. Postal Service confirming that I live in Ventura County even though my ZIP code (91301) is the same as for Agoura Hills in Los Angeles County. This letter is appreciated because I will no longer have to make copies of my property tax bill to prove that my address is in Ventura County.

However, three houses on my block are for sale. When I wrote to the Postal Service to ask how often they will send additional copies of their letter, I received no reply. Soon there will be three new families that do not have copies of this letter.

I must agree with Ventura County Supervisor Frank Schillo. This letter was merely a stop-gap measure. The only permanent solution--the only solution that does not require repeated mailing of notices--is to divide ZIP code area 91301 at the county line.
