Ex-Teacher Convicted of Molesting 5 Girls
A former third-grade teacher at Sunland Elementary School was convicted Monday of a dozen felony child molestation charges for improperly touching five girls in class during the 1995 school year.
John Sampson Njoroge, 30, faces a maximum 30-year prison term when he is sentenced Oct. 21, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Cynthia Meagher-Walker.
A jury of seven women and five men convicted Njoroge of 12 counts of committing a lewd act on a child and acquitted him on two counts, Meagher-Walker said.
Njoroge, who did not testify, was arrested June 29, 1995, at the school, after the girls complained to a teacher’s aide and school officials reported the allegations.
Meagher-Walker said the girls, now 9 and 10, testified that Njoroge rubbed parts of their bodies during class as he leaned close to them while helping them with schoolwork.
Njoroge’s lawyer, Richard Schwab, told Superior Court Judge Charles Peven he would appeal the conviction.
