A 19-year-old former UC Irvine student suspected of threatening Asian students via the Internet two weeks ago apparently also delivered a death threat to the school newspaper staff last year, university police said Tuesday.

The former student, whose name is being withheld, sent a computer message to the staff of the New University in November 1995 saying they were “all going to die,” university police said.

Meanwhile, university police presented their investigation Tuesday to the Orange County district attorney’s office, which is expected to file charges against the suspect within a few days.

University police said the suspect sent out an anonymous hate-filled computer message on Sept. 20 threatening to kill Asians on the predominately Asian American campus. The message went to about 60 people, most of them Asian Americans, including the suspect’s former roommate, according to police.

The incident has generated interest from local Asian television stations and from as far away as Korea and China.
