Magic Johnson Theatres Announces Expansion Plan: Basketball great Earvin “Magic” Johnson said he wants to build on the success of his pioneering Magic Johnson Theatre in Los Angeles by adding 14 movie theaters around the country in the next 18 months. The expansion would bring the total number of Magic Johnson screens to more than 200. The expansion plan targets minority neighborhoods in Los Angeles, San Diego, Atlanta, Houston, Chicago, Detroit, New York, New Orleans, Cleveland, Washington and Baltimore. In its first year of operation, the 12-screen Magic Johnson Theatre at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza has become one of the highest-grossing theaters in the country. Magic Johnson Theatres is a joint project of Johnson Development Corp. and Sony Theatres.
