NOTES

Ripken Making Most of Chance

He has five hits in eight at-bats with two runs batted in after two games of the division series. After 13 years, it seems Cal Ripken Jr. is determined to make the most of his second postseason appearance.

“This is the most exciting atmosphere you can be in,” said Ripken, who was in only his second full season in the majors when the Baltimore Orioles won the 1983 World Series.

“Even in the inning where the Indians had the bases loaded and no outs and the momentum was shifting to them, you look around and kind of tell yourself, ‘This is what you play for. This is exciting.’

“The excitement is so much that it’s physically and mentally draining.”

In the 1983 postseason, Ripken batted .400 (six for 15) in the American League championship series.
